ChatGPT Pro splits into $100, $200 and $500 tiers as Pro 200's allowance shrinks

ChatGPT Pro now comes in $100, $200 and $500 tiers. What each includes, what happens to Pro 200 after 29 October, and who should move down.

Three prices now sit under the name ChatGPT Pro: $100, $200 and $500 a month. The top one arrived on 29 September 2026. That same day, OpenAI reopened the $200 plan to new subscribers, with a smaller allowance.

If you are already on Pro 200, circle 29 October: it is the last day your old allowance applies. Here is what each tier includes, what "unlimited" covers, and how to tell if you could drop a tier.

Checked on 2 October 2026 against OpenAI's pricing page and help centre. Plans like these change often, so read every figure here as dated.

Three tiers, one name

OpenAI's help page on Pro tiers lists them like this:

  • Pro 100: $100 a month. No Ultrafast.

  • Pro 200: $200 a month. Includes "more usage than Pro 100". No Ultrafast.

  • Pro 500: $500 a month. Offers "the highest included usage of the three plans". The only Pro tier with Ultrafast, a faster mode for GPT-6 Astra. Sign-up is on the web only at launch.

All three are billed monthly. OpenAI says annual billing and paying several months in advance are not available.

The gaps between tiers come in relative words only: "more" and "highest". OpenAI's pages give no figure for how much more.

Shared by all three

The pricing page shows a single Pro card for all three tiers. On top of everything in Plus, it lists:

  • GPT-6 Pro in chat. That is OpenAI's name for GPT-6 Astra inside a normal conversation. Plus gets Astra only in ChatGPT's separate Work and Codex sections.

  • The Extra High and Pro thinking levels. Plus stops at Medium and High.

  • A larger context window for reasoning: 400K on Pro, against 256K on Plus.

  • "Maximum" deep research, memory and context.

  • Dots, OpenAI's always-on agents. Pro access excludes the EEA, Switzerland and the UK at launch. Subscribers in much of Europe are paying for a feature they cannot use yet.

What changed on Pro 200

Pro 200 has been open to new subscribers again since 29 September. The price stayed at $200 and the allowance went down.

  • New subscribers get "a lower usage allowance than previously offered with Pro 200", in OpenAI's words.

  • Existing subscribers keep the old allowance through 29 October 2026, if they had an active Pro 200 subscription at any point from 22 September to 10 a.m. Pacific Time on 29 September.

  • After 29 October, those subscriptions move to the lower allowance too. The price stays $200.

  • Cancelled and came back? You still qualify, on the same account, if you were active in that window.

  • Keeping the old allowance does not turn your plan into Pro 500 or add Ultrafast.

The part that came by email

OpenAI says only affected users get an email with the details. Several subscribers have posted theirs, on OpenAI's own community forum and on X.

By their account, the email lowers two things from 30 October. One is the separate allowance for Work and Codex. The other is the weekly cap on GPT-6 Pro in chat, which matters more if you mostly talk to ChatGPT.

Those posts quote exact figures. OpenAI has not put them on any page of its own, so we have left them out.

"Unlimited", read slowly

The Pro card on the pricing page says "Unlimited subject to abuse guardrails". The Pro sign-up page goes further: "Unlock unlimited use of our most capable models".

The help centre is more careful. Its page on GPT-6 Pro says: "GPT-6 Pro has usage limits. A Pro subscription does not include unlimited use of the GPT-6 Pro model."

What that means in practice, according to the same page:

  • On Pro $200, reaching the weekly GPT-6 Pro limit switches you automatically to GPT-5.6 Thinking at Medium.

  • On Pro $100, GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro share one weekly allowance. Switching between them does not add messages.

  • Support cannot reset your limits.

In the pricing page's own comparison table, the "Unlimited" label sits on everyday text chats and the regular GPT-5.6 models.

And credits?

Buying credits is no way round the GPT-6 Pro limit either. OpenAI's list of where credits apply does not include chat. Its help page adds that credits "do not provide additional usage for every ChatGPT model or feature".

If you want to see how Claude, Gemini and Grok word their own limits, our usage limits comparison sets them side by side.

The euro prices

From Belgium, signed out, on 2 October 2026, the pricing page shows Free at €0, Go at €8, Plus at €23 and Pro "From €103".

That is as far as it goes. We found no euro price for Pro 200 or Pro 500 on any page open to a signed-out visitor. So we are not printing one. If you are in the EU, check the amount at checkout before you confirm.

Who should move down a tier

Start with what you actually use, then find yourself below:

  • You mostly chat, write and ask questions, and rarely open GPT-6 Pro. Plus covers Medium and High thinking. You would give up Extra High, GPT-6 Pro and the larger reasoning window. For many people that is a fair trade.

  • You use GPT-6 Pro every week but seldom hit the limit. Pro 100 may be enough. Remember that its two Pro models share one weekly allowance.

  • You are grandfathered on Pro 200. You have until 29 October at the old allowance. Use October to note how often you hit a limit, then decide with real numbers.

  • You are tempted by Pro 500. Its extras are the biggest allowance and Ultrafast. OpenAI's launch note names the Work and Codex sections as where Ultrafast applies. If ChatGPT is mostly a conversation partner for you, that is a lot to pay for speed you may rarely feel.

Where MultiChats fits

Plainly: we do not offer GPT-6 Pro. If that model is the reason you pay, stay where it is.

If you mainly want ordinary chat with strong models from several companies, MultiChats Pro is $20.99 a month. Pro+ is $34.99.

The app counts the allowance in messages: 1,500 a month on Pro, 3,000 on Pro+. Settings on the web shows where you stand. Some models draw more than the standard amount, and they carry a badge in the model picker, such as "2× credits". You know before you send.

Changing or cancelling

To change plan, OpenAI points to Settings, then My Plan. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, change or cancel it there. Cancelling stops the renewal, and you normally keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

For a wider look at that decision, there is our short checklist on cancelling an AI subscription. For why plans keep shifting under people, see why your AI subscription keeps changing its limits.

And one line from OpenAI's help centre worth keeping in mind: uninstalling the ChatGPT app does not cancel the subscription.
